Non Alcoholic Bitters Recipe-Aromatic Bitters
It is possible to make non-alcoholic bitters at home without compromising flavor and without having a flavor that detracts from your craft non-alcoholic cocktail. Here’s how you can make non-alcoholic bitters at home with absolutely zero alcohol.
- 4 Drops Cinnamon Oil
- 2 Drops Nutmeg Oil
- 2 Drops Black Pepper Oil
- 2 Drops All-Spice (Pimento) Oil
- 2 Drops Bitter Orange Oil
- 1 Drop Cardamom Oil
- 1 Drop Clove Oil
- 1/4 Tsp Polysorbate 80
- 1 Tbsp Caramel Coloring
- 1 Tsp Gum Arabic
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 3/4 Cup Warm Water
In a 2 cup container, combine oils with ¼ teaspoon of Polysorbate 80 (a safe food-grade solubilizer that is used in all sorts of foods, like ice cream) and 1 tablespoon of caramel coloring. Set aside.
Mix 1 teaspoon of gum Arabic with 2 tablespoons of sugar in a separate container that will hold at least 1 cup of liquid. Add warm water to the mixture.
Add all ingredients together. Use an immersion blender to give the mixture a good spin to disperse the oils and get them into solution.
Shelf stable in a cool dark place and enjoy for up to 12 months. As oxidation occurs the flavors will change slightly week over week.
These oils are usually mixed with glycerin, but to make this alcohol-free, use caramel coloring. This can be purchased at the grocery store or on Amazon.
